DS-320 (mother can't find SS# that she got in 1970s)

I'm about to fill out out DS-320 for my mother (Application for immigrant visa and alien registration)

My mother live in the US in the late 70s when they gave a social security number to everybody, so my mother has a SS card and # but now she can't find her SS card (in Venezuela).

The problem is that when I'm filling out DS-320, question #33 ask the following, what should I do?
BTW, she has a very unique last name, so it's very likely that she is the only person in the SS that has her name

Have you ever applied for a Social Security Number (SSN)?
Yes ______ Give the number _____________________

Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and
issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)? You must
answer "Yes" to this question and to the "Consent To Disclosure" in order
to receive an SSN and/or card.
Yes ____ No ____

Using that and her date of birth, SSA might be able to get that number. Worth a shot. Visit your local SSA office. Good luck!!!

My father worked in the US in the late 1960's. You have to go in person to get the number and new card, although it will say not valid for work if she isn't.

Are you saying that they would give it to me? (her son)
She lives in Venezuela, so she can't go to the SS office

My problem is that she has applied for a SS number,
but what should I write when they ask for the number?
should I write "lost"?

You should call the US Embassy in Venezuela and ask them this question. I do not think the SSA will give you your mother's number without her presence. Therefore, your best bet is to call the embassy and ask them if your mother can request the number through them. I know that US Embassies worldwide assist in the application process of SSNs to foreign-born US Citizens and new immigrants. So, they may be able to assist your mother as well. Most likely they will ask her to appear there - which is easier - and submit a form. Just call their citizen services line and ask the question.
