driving license for assylum

one quick question my fren is in assylee status now and got a non-restricted social but the driving license is restricted ,is this the law .i m confused
 
as far as I was told at DMV, they need a letter from the judge/IO stating the grant of asylum, then they will issue the non restricted DL
 
i dont know about that but they told me the license is resticted bcoz of expiry date on EAD,does that make sense since assylum is approved and have unrestricted SSN

Should not show EAD to them Just show Asylum approval letter and that is it.
 
ya but if u show i -94 they say they gonna give the DL for just one yr,i dont no man tx seems preety much tougher in laws hmm
 
well,what now do u think we should go and talk to them or live it for a yr and after u get a GC and go change it or ??
 
That is unfortunately the rule in Texas. Many lawyers (including me) believe that this is in violation of federal law.

There is a law (actually a rule) in Texas saying that an asylee can get a DL for one year. Having this restriction is in violation of federal law and I hope that someone will sue them.
 
ok now do u think that i go back and get the unrestricted DL for 1 yr or wait till i get GC,thanks a lot for the postings
 
wow ,i got already for 5 yrs with restriction so do u think i go back and tell them and they ll give me the other one with no doubt
