I am on L1A as an executive, but doing my own business ( imports & wholesale )with 3 name sake employees but paying their taxes, social etc just to extend L1 status & stay current on L1. my L1A will expire in december 07.
i am thinking not to go for extention due to heavy cost of running business by way of taxes, office expences, employees's taxes etc. The business is in the same name in which petition was filed.

I can run business my self from US home by coming to US 3-4 times a year on B1/B2 visa, this will give a big relief from heavy expences which i have to incurr every month at present for L1 status. 3-4 trips to US from India will work for my business, say each trip would be for apprx. 1 month.

I have a home, car, several credit cards and business line of credit. i would like to keep everything the way it is now. Being an executive presently i am drawing salary and paying all my personal expences, credit cards.

would any one please advise if you see any problems in going this way.is it unlawful.

I will not draw any money or get paid in US, Money will come form our overseas company to pay all US expences.
if I am thinking wrong, please say why & what is the best option I have to cut down my expenses but keeping my business running at very minimum monthly expenses.

Please respond if someone is in the same boat where i am.

your views will truly help me to plan my next step.

You can come to the US on B visa for business. But you can only oversea the business and not draw a salary.

But if you come in and out of the US too often on the B visa they could suspect immigrant intent and deny you entry

Not sure how long you have had an L visa but if it is longer than one year you may be able to file I 140 and I 1485 for a green card

He cannot file the I-140; only his company can. And the company could have done so the day he arrived in the US.

I don't think The Real Canadian is right;I am in the same boat as supersunny, I have been in USA doing business while I keep my store in Canada, finally I decided to apply for Green Card and accordingly to my lawyer in DC, all I have to fill I-140 on behalf of the company I owned in USA pay $475 and at the same time fill I-485 for me,my wife and my kid (they are on L-2).$1010 for each adult and $600 for the child.
Hopefully it will not take long time,as a Canadian US Immigration was always easy on me.
So as long as you have been on L-1A visa over a year you you can apply.
Cheers
