Hello, Guys:

I have to use AP to travel outside of the states a couple of times for business this year and I am wondering if the using of AP delays the processing of I-485 (pending since Oct. 02)?

Any ideas or experiences? Thanks !

Even I have the same question. But when I and my wife went to local INS office to apply AP (we applied AP in an emergency situation), and I asked the person who handed the AP to us the same question. She said "There will be no delay in the process for using AP". But I dont know the exact answer even today. but my wife went to india and she will be using AP to re-enter. As far as I think as long as things are legal from our part nothing should hold (except if government decides to hold intentionally in support of illigal immigrants).

That's just a travel document for reentering US, why do you think it delays the 485 application?

I think it does. It is related to RFE's as far as I can guess. I have quite a few friends who have applied for GC and who all used AP got a RFE whereas the others got through clean.
Maybe it is just a coincidence, but I doubt it.

I am not sure if we can link both of them, there are some cases, where people used AP to reenter and approved without RFE's.

I was completely unaware of such a connection. I never even thought about it. I'm not sure how there could be a link but you never know....

---On the advance parole, it writes "Notice to the applicant: Presentation of this authorization will permit you to RESUMEyour application for AOS upon your return to the US".
Does it mean that AOS is practically stopped while you're away with AP, and will only resume when you're back?

No. There is nothing in the I-485 SOP that would do this, nor does USCIS have the capacity to start and stop stuff depending on your presence in the US. Your AOS is stopped 99% of the time anyways.

All AP does is allow you to re-enter the US in the absence of an L or H visa/petition.
