Hi all, I have a friend who lives in a foreign country and who is in the process of being sponsored by a US citizen relative for a greencard. Her husband will be a beneficiary and as a result, they had to get a copy of their marriage certificate from the appropriate office in her home country. Her relative received the certificate along with other documents and has already mailed in the documents to the USCIS. At a later date, they realized that the marriage certificate had the incorrect year on it. She contacted the marriage certificate office and was told that it would take months for them to straighten out the matter. Because of the long delay, she is considering leaving the marriage certificate as is. My question is, does USCIS verify foreign marriage certificates? If so, will they reject the case because the certificate has the wrong year on it?
