does TN time count towards 6 years of H1B

Hello All,

I have completed my 2 years on TN visa and now switching to H1B status from 2007 year quota my question is do I get full 6 years on H1B or I get only 4 years since I have already used my 2 years on TN.

I heard if you are on h4 and switch to H1B you loose the time you have spent on H4 towards your H1B time.

2) I will be travelling next month out of north america and while coming back I am planning to activate my H1B, being a canadian citizen is it ok to activate my H1B on airport immigration while coming back on USA ?

3) What documents should I carry for H1B activation.

Yes. Because it's an H sub-classification. Is there an H in "TN"?

Does your approval notice have an I-94 on it?

Not any more. This got changed some months back. H1-H4 decoupling, it is called.

---What you have heard is the old rule. The current rule states that even if you have spent 2 yrs on H4, you can still get 6 yr H1.

Can you also pl suggest what documents I should keep while activating my H1B.

The approval notice, your passport, a "still works here" letter from your HR department. If you have already been employed by them in TN status, bring along some paystubs.
