You were ripped off if you used that website, it is one of these awful sites. You can go to www.annualcreditreport.com and enter your state, which should pull up all three credit bureaus and give you for free access to your credit history. Credit report and credit score are totally different issues. You need a good credit history report to have a high credit score which gives you the power to negotiate with lenders. Unfortunately, if your credit history goes only as far as 2 years, your FICO score is going to be even lower. The credit report which access from the website I listed are free, available one a year around September or depending on your state.

Out of status can affect credit because you are unemployed and might NOT be using your credit cards an so forth. Unless you are preparing to buy a house anytime soon, forget about a credit score for about a year. Lenders will look at what is called FICO score. How long has you been in the US? I see you got your SSN 2 years ago, which means you have less credit history than most people.

I use that website to check my credit history for free. It won't give you credit score unless you pay extra. It is possible that you have very low credit score or no credit history because you do not have debt. My aunt husband who is an American citizen. He has no credit history. He can't even open verizon cellphone. He is rich man. He has cable to pay, utilities, but he has no debt because he has never gotten any kind of loan. He didn't have any type of credit card.

Out of status in generally, it won't effect your credit score. As Al Southner said

It's true since many credit card companies are very picky about giving out credit card. So, it is difficult for you to built your credit history.

What you can do, like my boyfriend. He also Americans. He has no credit history to open credit card or some cellphone carriers. So, he loan a car. The APR pretty high, tho. It is the best way in my opinion to start building credit score. I did the same when I first got my SSN while I was on F-1 visa(they used to give out SSN until 2003 or 04 not sure).
