Does everyone get N-659 Interview Document Checklist with Interview Letter?

Hi

I got my interview letter yesterday. An additional document called "N-659 Naturalization Interview Document Checklist" was also attached to my IL. That checklist includes a comprehensive list for all the documents needed for interview. However, most of the documents on this checklist are not on the interview letter (such as IRS letter 1722 etc.)

Does anyone get this letter with IL? Which one should I follow? For example should I take 1722 from IRS even though it is not listed on IL?

Any answer will greatly be appreciated.

You received an additional document check list apart from the yellow letter you received few weeks back? I never heard of it but if any of these check lists mentions IRS 1722, you need to take it. IL letter is more like an appointment letter. Check list is more important.

Yes, the N-659 document checklist comes with every interview letter. Follow what case (if any) you fall under on the checklist. For example, if you owe taxes or have taken trip over 6 months, then bring income tax receipts.

That's because you haven't received your interview letter yet.

I might not have received the IL but that doesn't mean I haven't looked at interview letters before. I helped my brother and my cousin file their cases last year and helped them prepare at every step of the way. They received check list with IL but they did not receive yellow list. That's why I said what I said earlier. Not everyone gets YCL and also a check list with IL.

Thanks for your quick reply. I do have several trips that lasted more than 6 months but less than one year. However those trips were before 2003 (before 7 years ago) and there is no trip more than one month during the last 7 years. (And total days in last 5 years are less than 90) Since those trips broke my continous residency, I waited till 2009to apply for citizenship. However, I am really confused about Question #5.

Question 5 says: "If you have taken outisde the US that lasted for six monts or more since becoming a permanet resident bring:
- Evidence you did not abandoned your residence or terminate your employment in the US nor abandon your US abode;
AND
- An original IRS 1722 letter listing tax information for the past 5 years (or past three years if you are applying on the basis of marriage to a US citizen

I can bring the IRS document for last 5 years but what document are they asking for the time before 2003? Is the time before last 5 years really important for USCIS?

Spiderman this checklist comes along with every IL. It's not a Yellow Letter.
Yellow Letter is an addition checklist for people who answer yes or no on one or more questions such as arrests, communist parties, nazi camps, etc

I guess I learned something new then.

I received an interview letter that mentions passport and GC but never received checklist.

I had the same case, but things might have changed. All I got was a single page which gave the appointment as well described the documents to bring.

BTW, what's with the oath letter - all the other documents we receive are printed on CIS stationery, the oath letter was just plain white US letter?

So neither of you received N-659 checklist along with I-797C interview letter?

Did you get your oath letter right away after the interview? If not, did they tell you you the oath date after the interview?

I will take my comments halfway back. I am basing my comments on the scans I have of all my documents (which I make as soon as I get something critical). I do not have such a scan. Also, after looking at the image you provided, I am reasonably sure that I have not seen it before. But will I say it under oath - not sure.

Both myself and my wife as well as 2 of my friends also received a standard checklist along with the interview letter. And our cases were routine ones. So my assumption is that everyone does get it (or at least majority of the people do). Since that is a very generic and comprehensive list, you should only carry the appropriate documents that are applicable to you.

Its quite likely that some of you may have received it and just discarded it like you would when you open a bank statement and notice a pile of marketing junk along with it. In the excitement of the IL I wouldn't be surprised if someone would just fail to notice the checklist. :)

I would not worry about any documentation for extended trips before the 5 year period. 5 years should be adequate.

Of course if you have any arrests, citations and such stuff then its best to carry court dispositions or other documents even if it falls prior to the 5 year period.

Trips over 6 months taken as LPR before the 5 year statutory period may still be questioned by IO. For example, if someone became an LPR in 2001, traveled for 14 months in 2002 with reentry permit and then applied for naturalization in 2007, they may still be asked to provide the reentry permit for the 14 month trip during the interview even if it falls outside statutory period.

Oh! Thanks for pointing that out Bob. I stand corrected then!. Please carry the travel details prior to 5 years as well in that case. :)
