I think mahakavivishnu is simply seeing the standard online status message we see from the generation of the fingerprinting letter until "transferred to local office".

mahakavivishnu, if I'm reading your original post correctly, you submitted your N-400s fairly recently and have not yet received a notice advising of your fingerprinting appointment. If I'm right, the online status simply means they've generated that notice. The online status is somewhat misleading and makes many people anxious. However, that status will likely remain unchanged until some time after you complete fingerprinting and your case is transferred to your local USCIS office for interview scheduling.

Request for additional evidence is normal (FP) and is very different from "suspended"... that's what we need to validate.

This is what i saw online
"On July28,2101 we mailed anotice requesting addnl evidence or info in this case n400appln for natnl. pl follow the instructions on the notice to submit the requested information .This case will be in suspense intil we receive the evidence or the opprtunit to submit it expires, oce we receive the requested evidence or info and make decision on the case you will be notified by mail"

What will be the addnl evidence they usually ask for?
what does that mean?

n-400 addnl evidence- Thank you for every one replied to my earlier post

Hi all thank you for your replies.

Its probably your biometrics letter, as soon as you get it go get it done same day or next because the service centers are virtually empty due to very few applicants, don't wait for the scheduled date. I know the wordings are a bit confusing, but the additional evidence they refer to are your fingerprints and picture they take when you get there.

I strongly believe we should have s sticky thread that says "When N-400 Online status says 'On ...........we mailed a notice requesting additional evidence ........', it means its your FP letter"...

We keep getting same question again and again from forum members.

BTW OP, its your FP letter.....Why don't you follow your month tracker thread here... I think you must have sent your N-400 either in June or July. We have threads for each month (at least starting from Feb) to track fellow members progress.

You will get lot of your questions answered if you follow one or more such trackers....

When i first saw this last week, I called USCIS and I will tell you that even their rep didn't know this was even though I suggested I think its the biometrics NOA/RFE. He asked for my receipt number, I provided it and he saw the status message and told me he does not know what it is but it that it is not the biometrics letter. He said it was mailed 07/26/2010, it is either a letter telling me what to bring to the interview or a letter asking me for something missing in my application. I doubted it but had no choice but to wait.

When I got it, it turned out to be the biometrics NOA/RFE as I expected, although before I ever thought it was te biometrics letter the status update wording on the website was confusing to me like as though it was something that was left out of the application that they were asking for. Perhaps this was the same confusion the USCIS rep had, but you'd think they would all have come across this before.

On another note, from reading various posts here, people seem to imply that your case is transferred to the local office after your full eligibility term is up e.g 3yrs or 5yrs. For example, I have been an LPR since 09/27/2007 with a USC spouse, currently 2yrs and 10 months after LPR. Even though my priority date of filing is 07/14/2010 and as of 07/30/2010 I have completed everything up to biometrics, does this mean that they will hold my application until 09/27/2010 anyway, to complete the full 3 years, before they transfer it to the local office and before they even schedule me for an interview? Or is it that they can transfer it to the local office anytime soon but schedule me for an oath taking only after the full 3 years (or does anyone really know any of this)?

That is quote on quote what it says for me too. It was a FP notice. I have done my FP too. Still my status isn't updated in the site. I did NOT receive any other notice from USCIS.

Right. And as I mentioned previously on this thread, in my case that message did not change for many weeks, until the day it changed to "transferred to local office". I think other posters have reported the same. It doesn't change when your fingerprints are processed and it doesn't change when they send a Yellow Letter.

I agree with the poster who said there should be a sticky explanation about this. Many filers seem to find that online status message very misleading and anxiety-provoking.
