Do I really need a lawyer?

I am currently on F1 Visa and my wife is having her citizenship interview soon. I was reading the forums and realized that a lot of people have lawyers. Are the forms really hard to fill in or people are hiring lawyers just to be on the safe side? What kind of mistakes can I do to put myself in a bad situation. By the way from what I read the forms I have to send are: I130, I485, I765 and I864. Is this list correct. Also what is I485a? One last question; If I don't apply for advanced parole can I leave the country? I know I said last one but how much time it takes to get approved for advanced parole. Thanks.

I do not think you really need a lawyer. You can fill the forms yourself. There's a lot of info on this forum and if you have a question you can always ask.
You will also need to fill out G325A for you and your spouse. Also if you need advansed parole, thats I-131.
I-485A is a supplement tp form I-485. You basically use it if you want to adjust status and you overstayed, or came in uninspected, etc. then You pay 1000 fine and file I-485 A. Since you will file based on being married to USC and you came in with visa you do not need the form.
Once you apply you can leave with advanced parole document. I do not know how long it takes to get it, but some people have gotten it in under a month. It differs.

Most of the questions are already answered on this forum, so read the threads. If you still have any, you can ask or PM. I will try to help as much as I can.
Good luck!!

One more thing: Should I consider mself unlucky since we live in NY(processing times)?
