Hi,

Im in asylum status and my EAD will expire on 02/20/2010. Do i need to renew my EAD while im waiting for my green card application??
please help!

Thank You.

i think you can if you want to. and i also believe that you would be eligible for a fee waiver since your i-485 is still pending. what is your i-485 receipt date?

i havent filed my green card yet, because my plan was to renew my EAD but the fee is $340 so i thought i rather to file for green card instead of EAD. so do i have to renew my EAD too when im waiting for green card? if i have to renew it too i will just renew my EAD first.

Thanks

Do you mean if you have a SSN, DL and a GC you do not need to renew the EAD which usually expires after 12 months to work legally?

To work legally, all you need is an unrestricted SSN and a Gov't issued ID like Driver's license, GC etc.

really?? i dont need to renew my EAD?? i thought i have to renew my EAD until i have GC. i have unrestricted SSN, DL, ID, and im a asylum granted. so i dont need to renew my EAD?? im just scared if i dont renew my EAD i will have a problem later when i want to apply for GC.

Needless to say, once your Asylum status is approved, you don't need an EAD card. However, you're entitled to one, should you feel like the need of getting one.

ohh.. i dont have problem with my employers, my only concern is if i dont renew my EAD and still working and when i want to apply for my green card i will have a problem with the gov because i dont want my green card get reject because i didnt renew my EAD while im still working.

Kodoq, did you go through the attached file? That is the government's guidance! Once your asylum is approved, you don't need to worry about EADs. The only reason why they want you to apply for one is to prevent you from hassles and unnecessary nuisances from employers and other governing bodies because the general consensus has established that only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents don't need EADs. That's not the case.
