Do I need to have a US telephone number for my interview?

Hi everyone!

Well I can't believe it's finally here but I have my DV-2009 interview on Tuesday!

There's just one quick question I have that I'm hoping somebody could help me with:

Do I need to provide the interviewing officer with a US telephone number during the interview?

As I do not know anybody in the US, when I originally filled in question 11 of my DS-230 Part 1 form, I used a mail forwarding address from usabox.com for the location that I would like to have my Green Card mailed. I understand this is acceptable.

However, I just wrote N/A for the telephone number in the same question. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this was okay to do for the original submission of forms but when it comes to the interview, a US telephone number will be required.

Does anybody who has had their interview know if this is the case? If so, do you think I would be okay for me to set up and to use a local telephone number from tollfreeforwarding.com?

Thank very much for any help!

Dave.

Not at all. If you've not been to the US prior to your interview, how would you have a US phone number?

I see your point but a mailing address is required and I've never been to the US to provide one of those either.

Had you included a US mailing address and/or phone number when you filled out question 11 of your DS-230 Part 1 form? If not I'm guessing you weren't asked for these details during your interview?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I just want to be as prepared as I can be for my interview :)

At the interview you NEED to give an address in the US! If you do not know anybody there, the only option is to use a mail forwarding service.

Thanks for your help Tazmania. We don't know anybody in the US so we have used a mail forwarding address.

So I guess I should also ask you, do you think we would need a US telephone number at the interview as well as a mailing address?

Thanks again!

It's already been answered, didn't you read it? you need a mailing address for your GC, but you don't need a phone number. USCIS will not phone your card in.

Hey everyone.

As the company I was thinking of using has a 10 day free trial I thought I'd set up a number anyway, couldn't hurt right?

I'm quite glad I did as the consulate officer asked me for my U.S. phone number during the interview. I don't know if it was essential, but I do feel the fact that I knew it off the top of my head did impress her.

Thanks very much for everyone's input, without this forum I would have been very unprepared!

Hey Rory,

The interview went really well, all a bit of a blur really. The whole process took about an hour and a half.

I was really amazed that the visa arrived in the mail the next morning at 10am too!
