I understand that as of now, we need to have a passport to fly to Canada.

I have a re-entry permit + GC, but do I need to go to Canadian Consulate and apply for a travel visa ? (I needed to do this for visiting Schengen countries and Japan etc, but I'm not sure if Canada requires US permanent residents to have a VISA for a short visit)

ok, thats good to know.

So I just use my re-entry permit for airline check-ins and use my re-entry permit + GC to be allowed back in USA.

I may be mistaken
but from this log in name (asylumguy) and the content of the post, i assume that the person is an asylee and therefore not in possession of a valid passport .

A little out of my sphere, but is a Re-entry Permit truly a Refugee Travel Document.

And RTD can be used for re-entry into US, of course, but I'm not so sure of the reverse, is a US re-entry permit recognized by other countries as a travel document.

And RTD's are generally valid for only one year.

Just wondering...
