Do I loose H1B status if I use AP?

I am planning to visit India and use AP instead of going to consulate, do I loose H1B status if I only us AP and not use EAD?

My wife AP has been lost in mail when we called USCIS they asked us to wait for 30 days and call them back. Do they issue duplicate AP if it lost in mail or I have to submit new application?
