What citizenship do you hold? Did you actually apply for a visa before coming to the U.S. or did you enter on a Visa Waiver?

IF you have visa in your passport that was placed there by a U.S. consulate it will likely be a B-1/B-2 and at entry the CBP Officer asked you for the purpose of visit and decided between them.

So, if you entered as a "tourist" B-2 and did not indicate that your intention was to find a school to apply to, you may have trouble changing to a student F-1 visa.

Yes that is exactly, I entered the United States as a "tourist" with a stamp and written in pen B-2 and 6 weeks by someone in the airport. My intention was just for vacation. But isn't that called a visa? If it is its expired though. What is the I-94 page? Is that the page in my passport where it states my information and displays my picture? Or is a visa suppose to be on a totally different piece of paper/card?

Ok No I didn't get any piece of paper or anything stabled to my passport, there were just a stamp on one page of the passport and he wrote B-2 and 6 weeks in pen. Somebody told me on another forum I don't have to go to the US embassy in Canada, I just have to fly back and come back over showing them my I-20 form and they will help me in the airport or something?

Are you a Canadian or a landed immigrant in Canada or from somewhere else? Is there some reason why you cannot provide a complete picture of your situation? Are you being evasive or just a dope?

Yes, that was me. This holds only if you are a Canadian citizen.

I am a Canadian citizen I was born in Canada, but I am worried because when they stamped my passport and wrote B-2 6 weeks, they also asked me what my reasons were going to USA, I said to them for vacation because that was what I was going for I had no plans to stay for high school in the USA, but now since I won't be going back until around July 2011, and then when I try to reenter either with an approved F-1 Visa or if I show them my I-20 form and they try to change me to F-1 Status at port of entry, won't they comment on the fact that I was suppose to come back in 6 weeks after vacation and not 1 year later? Will I get denied of F-1 Status?

Paranoia has no cure. Do you realise you have 132 words before you use a "full stop"??? Canadians do not accrue illegal presense unless they are notified by an agent. Yes, you should have left in 6 weeks but you did not. However being Canadian helped you and you did not accrue an overstay. I am assuming you were not issued an I-94. Doesn't appear that you were. You should be able re-enter using your I-20. The only way I see you getting into trouble is if they ansk you how long you were last in the US. You then have to answer truthfully and then it may get dicey for you.
