Do dependents count in the 50,000 DV visas?

Hi all

New to this forum. Just had my interview this week and passed everything except waiting on a police clearance from Canada and it may take about 3 more months.

What I am trying to find out is, what is the likelihood of the 50,000 DV visas being issued in the next three months?? Also, do dependents (spouse, children) of the original winner take one of the 50,000 allocated visas or are they not counted?

Thanks in advance.

Hi tdboomer,
Just a quick question. Canada's PCC takes that long? 3 months? Did you apply outside Canada or within Canada? Currently I'm in Canada, I am worried do I need to wait so long as well?
Thanks

Hi Dvnp

I am in Australia so I did the ink prints from Australia and sent the forms to Canada. We have been informed up to 4 months and there is so little support as you can't call up and find out like the UK. I have found out through friends in Canada and own research that it takes between 3 days and 2 weeks if you do electronic fingerprints while in Canada.

Considering flying over but flights at this time of the year are pretty expensive thinking about waiting but have no idea when the 50,000 allocation will run out. In the interview they asked us just to provide that and it is issued.

Hi Tdboomer
Thanks for your quick reply. I feel relief to know that it would take max 2 weeks while in Canada. I believe you have taken interview already. This mean that you are already issued visa??
Or you have to wait 3 more months before they issue visa?
Yeah indeed it is expensive to travel during this time of the year. All the best for your coming days.
Regards

Hi Dvnp
I have taken the interview and all is good but my wife and I must provide that one document each. It has not been approved but once we give them the Canada police check they said it will be issued within 48 hours. To be honest it is very frustrating and thinking of biting the bullet and paying the $3000 for both of us to to fly to Vancouver to get the prints done (may as well have a ski holiday for a week or so while there).

Other option is wait and run the risk of visas running out but I have no idea when they are expected to run out. It would be a shame considering paying for the interview, medicals etc if they were to run out.

Yes indeed, it is expensive to travel here for a week and get it done. I do not know why they have to take so long? Even in Singapore, which is considered as the fine (fined) city with tight security issues PCC in two weeks time. So when was your interview and when did you request your PCC from Canada? I believe it will not run out as the visa should be issued by September 2011. So you guys still have many months. But I know how frustrating it is to wait that long.
Are you Aus citizen? If yes, what makes you to settle down to US?
All the best!

Interview was last week and applied for the police check in Canada about 3 weeks ago as we didn't think we needed it but though we would get it anyway and in the interview they asked for it. We lived there for about 12 months each. Yeah as for running out I would have thought that once 50000 visas are issued for the year then it is finished but I am having trouble getting this information.

I am an Australian citizen. I am looking for a new challenge plus I can afford to buy a house in the US unlike Australia where half a million dollars doesn't get you much at all!! Plus the Aussie dollar is as strong as it has ever been now is as good as time as ever.

Yes, if you include an eligible dependent on your visa application forms that you failed to include on your original entry, your case will be disqualified. (This only applies to persons who were dependents at the time the original application was submitted, not those acquired at a later date.) Your spouse may still submit a separate entry, even though he or she is listed on your entry, as long as both entries include details on all dependents in your family.

Hi ,
happy to read from your experience. Can you provide me with details of your interview? were you separated from your wife? who was the principal applicant, your wife or you? did the depended is also interview as well as the dependant?.
My wife is the winner so i am worry about the questions the CO may ask me ........your detail will be appreciated....

Thanks for the reply. We were married before the interview and still married. So there is no problem there.

My question is more there are 50000 visas available. Is it 50000 original winners plus all dependents (eg man + wife + 3 children = 1 visa out of the 50000 available)? or is it 50000 visas available for winners including dependents (eg man + wife + 3 children = 5 visa out of the 50000 available)

Hi tdboomer, yes all dependents are included in the 50,000 visas. That is why KCC instructed to list them on the entry form because again, they will be included in the 50,000 visas.
