Hi all,
So I went to USCIS today for an appointment. I was asking about the 'ADIT' stamp that Mr. Khayyam mentioned. They told me in no uncertain terms that I could only get an ADIT stamp if I filed I-751. I explained to them as to you that I am separated and not divorced and my husband will not be prepared to file jointly as separated. The immgration officer said that if I couldn't file I-751 before the end of the week (two weeks before the expiry date of my green card) then I should expect a court date where in all likelihood I would be deported. She said that I CANNOT work past the expiry date of my green card, and that I have no rights to even remain in the country at the expiry of the green card. All she could advise is that I file the form this week, or suffer the consequences.
Therefore, with all due respect Mr. Khayyam, you were very wrong about most of the statements you made on this thread. I guess Google isn't a very accurate source of information after all.
Since I can't file the papers, and I can't afford a lawyer, my option is now ???. I guess I'm going to have to go and beg my ex-husband that we file jointly.
