Difference between AOS for spouse and AOS for other immediate relatives

Hi Folks,

I am about to file I-485 in the Family 1st category(Unmarried Son/Daughter of US Citizen). I am wondering what is the difference in terms of processing time between some one in my category VS some one filing as a spouse of a US citizen? The reason I am asking is that I see that it's taking about 4 months for people filing for their spouse (based on the time lines posted on this forum) and yet my lawyer is saying it's taking about 1 year for some one in my category to adjust status these days. I would imagine that family based AOS would be the same irrespective of the sponsor.

I would also appreciate any one else who can contribute their experience/timeline with filing in the category F1 (especially folks in NYC).

Btw, I am a resident of NYC.

Once your PD is current and the I-485 is filed, it should take about the same amount of time. I'd venture between 4 and 12 months, depending on the USCIS district office.
