Difference b/w OPT and CPT. How to apply for CPT?

Hi,

I want to know what is CPT. How can i apply for it? What is the difference between CPT and OPT and what is the procedure to apply for both.

I am pursuing an AS degree and im in CA on F1. I have internship as part of my AS degree. I have completed 1 year in the US as a student. What do i need to do in order to start an internship OFF-CAMPUS.

There is a small confusion...

Thank You for the link....but here is one catch.

in this link, under the FAQ's under CPT, it is mentioned that for CPT a student does not need to go through USCIS.

but in the last question, its mentioned that at the end of CPT, the student must notify USCIS.

Please clarify on this Lucy.

Do you mean this phrase? Even though you don't have to go through USCIS to get a work permit (like in OPT case), CPT is reflected in your SEVIS record, which, in turn, is transmitted to USCIS. If you cancel your CPT, SEVIS needs to be updated.
