Damaged passport and H1

Hi ,

My passport got damaged along with the H1-B. But there is minor change in the H1-B sticker .So if I apply for duplicate passport ,do I have to apply for new H1-B .Is there any option by which I can apply for duplicate H1-B.If yes can anybody tell me what is the exact procedure?
P.S- Currently I am in India,so getting duplicate passport is not that much problem.

if your h1 visa in the damaged pp is machine readable then you can go ahead and get a new one.

While issuing the new one there is always a caveat to mentione visa in the old pp is valid.
 
Damaged H1

Hi Great Guru ,

Thanks for answering my questions .How can i check that the H1 sticker is machine readable or not? And who is going to mention that the visa in the old passport is valid ? Can't I have duplicate H1 same like the duplicate passport.If u throw some light on that ,it will be very much helpful for me .

Simple, Is the H1 on the old PP look like the original one or have scratches, letters/numbers erased.If everything intact in appearance , then it is machine readable. Any part is missint/torn off then you can not use one.
And who is going to mention that the visa in the old passport is valid ? Indian PP issuing authority Can't I have duplicate H1 same like the duplicate passport.If u throw some light on that ,it will be very much helpful for me .
If you are in India you can take both the pp along with all the documents to get a duplicate one. But you may have to wait to get an appointment. Or contact counsel office to find out about your unique situation.

Great Guru Please advice !

Hi Great Guru

My current Indian passport ( with active multiple entry US H1-B1 work visa stamp valid till August 2007, active UK multiple entry visa, and Schengen visa stamp) stapled to the old passport, was lost in mail by British Consulate -NY and FedEx.

I was issued this passport in April 2005 in India. I am going to apply for a duplicate Indian passport at the Indian consulate. Does anyone has any information about how much time it normally takes? Do they atleast issue a temporary passport for emergencies? Is there any way to expedite the process?

I am aware that I can not get new visa stamp in the usa and will have to goto India for the new stamp.

How long does it take to get the replacement I94 ( stapled to the lost passport)

I am working for the current company for last 4.5 years and was looking for another job so that the new company can file for my new H1 and green card. I have got a new job offer from another company. Will I be able to transfer or change jobs in between even though I dont have my passport? I have the photocopies of the passport, all visa stamps, I-94 photocopy (original lost with passport) and original I797 document from INS for the current company which came with H1 petition.

Please help me ! Any feedback is highly appreciated (specially regarding process, time frames and job change.)

damaged passport - is old passport returned.

Dear All,

The lamination of the first page of my passport has come out .All the visa and passport information is clearly visible in Passport.I need to get a duplicate passport.I would really appreciate if you could reply to my following queries :-

1)When I apply for duplicate passport, will indian consulate return my old passport along with duplicate passport.

2)What will happen to my H1 visa which is not yet expired.

3)Normally how much time should they take to give me duplicate passport in this case as my current passport is not that damaged.
