Currently in COB - family death, need for death certificate?

Hi Everyone,

I have been in my COB since early October 2009. I came to visit my Mom, who was suffering from a liver disease and passed away recently. I am from one of the "countries of interest." I plan to stay with my family for another 2-3 months--the length of my visit will be less than, but close to, 6 months. Considering all the new immigration procedures for these countries, I expect lots of questioning at POE. I was wondering if I would need my Mom's death certificate? She died at home and I am not even sure they issue death certificates here. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Best,
Gino

I'm very sory about your mom's passing.
Get, at least, some paperwork and, maybe, do not stay for a few more months - it may complicate things even more - just a suggestion. You are not a citizen yet, right?

The procedures are only for security and nothng to do wth your immigration satus. Bring back evidence in case needed for your USC interview. You should have no problems if your stay is less than 6 months.

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. I will try to take with me some evidence for my N-400 interview.

Best,
Gino

I beg to differ. Primary asylees, even when holding a GC, who visit their COP may be questioned extensively at the POE. I hope it does not happen to the OP, but just playing devil's advocate.

You should have no problems if your stay is less than 6 months.
