Does anyone know what the "U" stands for in the current Visa bulletin under the employment based and for the 3rd category. Any help is highly appreciated.

"Unavailable". That means there are no more EB3 immigrant visas left (except for Schedule A).

Please help

My priority date for labor was April 2002 as was in EB3 and approved in March 2005.
140 was filed in March 2005 and pending.
485 filed last week.

Now I have two questions.

Question 1 - Once it goes inside the I-485 process, does it matter whether you are in EB2 or EB3?
I think it matters and there are separate visa numbers available for EB3 and EB2.
I asked many friends here but they say it does not matter AFTER 485 are filed as they go in the same pool.

Question 2 – Once 485 is filed does that labor priority date matter or green card is issues based on first come first serve basis on when 485 is filed.

If EB3 immigrant visas left is "Unavailable" does it also mean those cases are not being touched at all? ie. can somebody get RFE?

OR

It only means such cases will not be approved until PD is "Current"

There is no reason why RFEs cannot be generated, or cases denied, if there are no visas available. However, it's more likely that nothing will happen - except that if you have a pending RFE/NOID and do not respond in time, the case will be denied.
