Current rules on reentry permit

I recently got my I-485 approved. But I am scheduled to relocate to India in a month. What are the current rules regarding reentry permits?

A lawyer I talked to said I need to come back to US every 6 months until it is approved. Some others said I can apply and leave without waiting for an approval (which takes between 1-2 years!).

Anyone who has been through this and has successfully reentered using this permit?

You are saying that you already got 485 approved...... and ur company is sending u back for job duties....... ur concern to come back without problem?

Here u must understand ........ You got Permanent Residence of USA. it mean u have to live here.... u do have option to go back ur country and back here...... once year u have to max stay outside of usa is I believe 6 months per year. but you can stay if you have reason to stay ...........

ur choices are...... to leave USA without notice and come back withing six monhts.... or if u like to work over there........ and stay there 6+ months... you can come back with the reason... but ofcourse ur re-entry risk is high...... so you should inform them / some kind of permistion in advance through ur attoreny to stay there more than 6 months........ becuase of job.....

but remember law doesn't change for personal reasons..... its upto them they allow u or deny.......and takeback ur GC.......

my personal opinion is stay here....... and work......

I am heading back on my own - not due to company. But, I am going back to work for the Indian subsidiary of the same company which applied for my GC.
 
I have read on some site that you can apply reentry document and once you get the receipt you can go out of US. You need to contact good attorney and find the correct answer. I hope one can stay out of USA for 2 years with reentry permit
