I am about to submit my n-400. I am wondering if somebody could help me with a sample cover letter for the application.
Thank you
D

I read a few entries of people who did and they recommended it. According to one of the forum entries of a moderator: "...Though submitting a cover letter along with your naturalization application is not necessary, however it is highly recommended..."

It is really only needed if you have something to explain.

For instance:

I wish to draw your attention to my approved N-470 which preserved my residence for naturalization while working abroad for an American Company in accordance with INA 316(b). OR

Here is a list of all my trips......I meet both the physical presence and continuous residence requirements. OR

Even though I have one trip lasting 8 months, I feel that I have not disrupted my continuous residence for the following reasons: ...... and attached is my evidence of same. OR

Since I am applying based on INA 319(b) as the spouse of a USC who is regularly stationed abroad attached you will find the travel orders naming me as accompanying or following to join during that long term assignment. OR

I wish to draw your attention to the fact that my I-751 remains pending at this time even though I and my spouse filed it in a timely manner and it will need to be adjudicated before or at the N-400 interview. etc...

If you have no issue to address it is not needed.

to think of it, i had a cover letter with my sent n400, as advised by Al, Jack, and Bob.
mine was based on the 4 year + 1 day rule.
i kinda explained my eligibility to apply quoting the stipulated rule

Hello Sree

Would you please post on what they asked at the interview when you applied under the 4 year 1 day rule?
Also Is cover letter the only place you mentioned that you are applying under 4 year 1 day? Are there any other additional documents apart from the ones mentioned in USCIS gov which i would need to apply for my wife under 4 year and 1 day rule?

Please advise, your input is higly appreciated
Thanks

I had the cover letter printed explaining that I am using the rule for my eligibility for filing n400 4 year + 1 day rule (8 CFR 316.5 (c)(1)(ii) ). my father petitioned for my visa, ever since i arrived my dad had claimed/included me while filing taxes as a dependent. for the period between 2003, 2004, & 2005 I did not file any taxes. i had used my dad's tax transcript for the year 2005 just in case i needed to prove ties with america as I had nothing else to produce. No rent, no mortgage, no bank accounts nor utilities. I also attached a copy of my degree certificate that shows my date of graduation in 2006. So that the USCIS could understand my intentions in staying abroad was to complete my schooling and graduate as I secured my visa half way down my college. I didnt spend much time abroad after my graduation, ruling out my chances of working abroad ( atleast in my belief) Its best to have some extra proof, what ever you can think off, just to be sure you have some extra ammunition just in case they feel like clinging on to something that questions your eligibility.

A quick question, You actually mean your wife is applying for herself (n400) using the 4year + 1 day rule, you kind of mentioned that you were applying for her.

Whats your status if you dont mind asking.
