Many of the H1b people in this country would have thought between Contracting Vs Permanent Job offers some time in your career here.

I am wondering what your recommendations would be for safe Green card processing option.

Permanent jobs have a risk of layoffs which could potentially distroy Green card processing. So in that respect a consulting career with a decent consulting company seems a pretty good option till you get your green card.

What are your views on this.

Thanks.

You must be employed "permanently" with the sponsor of your green card. Any other arrangement will make green card processing an impossibility.

I went thru the same situation 4 years back. I decided to go for a consulting company. The only mistake I made was not to choose a "decent" consulting company in terms of financial ability of the employer. While choosing the consulting company, the word decent is of utmost importance.

On the other side, I have some friends who opted for permanent jobs. They are still employed and GC process is also going on fine.

So it is your own choice.

As far the comments from Jim Mills, I agree that the job has to be permanent. I just want to clarify that Subash1977 is going to have a permanent job with the consulting company, who in turn will be placing him on different consulting positions from time to time.

Best of Luck, may you make the right decision!
