continuous stay requirements after GC

Hi
My in-laws stayed here for 2.5 years after getting GC and would like to go to India for an year for family reasons
1)If they take travel permit, does this 2.5 years count towards citizenship
2)what is the maximum period they can leave US with travel permit and reenter US on GC without any reentry-problems
3)If they have to forfeit their GC, how easy/difficult it would to get GC again.

thanks in advance

1) It would only potentially count towards physical presence, depending on when they apply for naturalization.
2) A reentry permit is valid for 2 years from date of issuance.
3) They would have to start GC process from scratch.

Read 8 CFR 316.5(c) {all of it} to see how extended travel affects naturalization eligibility.

A re-entry permit protects the greencard but not naturalization eligibility.
