I dont want to waste time dealing with chennai for another 6-8 weeks. Maybe after filing 824, I can try that route.
I think I"ll apply for 824 and hope for an early approval. Btw, processing time for NSC is 4 months for I-824 according to the USCIS website. I do not know whether to believe it or not.
Atleast, I think going thru this process is hopefully a time bound process (8 months + 6 months), while NSC could take forever to approve the 485. (RD April 03)

If you plan to take this route with the US consulate in Chennai, do let us know. Maybe Mumbai will waive off its request for the I-824 receipt too.
