Conditional or Non-Conditional GC - Help with divorce needed ASAP

Hi all,

I was married for 3 years and received my GC alongwith my husband. However we have now filed for divorce and I want to know how my GC will be affected. It doesnt say on the approval (485) that its conditional , it came 2.5 years into marriage. How do I find out whether its conditional or not?

After divorce, do I have to apply for anything to maintain the validity? Can my husband cancel it? Or cause any other trouble to my status?

My married name is on the passport and GC and I have applied for changing my name in the divorce papers. So after I get the divorce judgement (California - do it yourself procedure) will it be possible to change my name to my maiden name everywhere? Does it cause problems towards the Green Card?

Has anyone done this before? What is the process for changing the name?
I have already specified it in the forms so its going to be reverted, and also I do not want the option of continuing this name because I cannot do that.

Please help me out here, urgently.

Thanks,
Aparaajita.

No, you don't need to do anything. Your GC won't be affected due to divorce. You husband cannot cancel your GC.

Once divorce is done, your can change your name on your passport, drivers license, SSN and green card. The court order (as you requested your name change alongwith divorce papers) is sufficient for changing name in above documents. For green card, you need to visit local district office with I-90 form and $185 application fee (plus three passport size pictures).

As you requested for name change in divorce paper, you don't need to do anything else.

Conditional or non-conditional

How do I know for sure if my GC is conditional or un-conditional?

Thanks a lot for all your help.

Were you married to a US citizen for less than 2 years when your GC was granted? If not, then your GC is unconditional.
