Company spinoff and citizenship

I got my GC through employment with my employer. I still work there, but the company has a different name than when they were applying for my GC. The reason is because the division I have been working for many years had spun off from the parent company. As a matter of fact, my company spun off from the parent company shortly after my GC, which was more than 5 years ago. Both companies still exist today.

I had recently applied for my GC in San Jose, CA. On my application, I listed the company's new name in the employment section as opposed to my parent company name. Nowhere did I mention the old company name.

My question is:
1. Do I need to justify to the interviewer, when I get the interview, it is the same company which had sponsored for my green card?
2. Will the interviewer know the name of the company who had sponsored for my GC?
3. What proof do I need to bring with me to show him/her I am still working for the same company? Will a company letter suffice in this case?

Please help.

Hi,

I had my citizenship interview end of Nov '05. At the end of the interview,
the officer wanted a letter verifying my employments dates with my previous employer who was my GC sponsor. I didn't have this with me at the
time of the interview but I got this letter and sent it to the USCIS office
on Montery Rd a few days after the interview.

(I had left my GC sponsoring employer 3 months after getting the GC)

So to be safe, you should get a letter from your parent company verifying
your dates of employment with them and also one from your current company.

I got the oath letter after a month - at the same time as others who had
their interview end of November.

Thanks for your advice.

The problem is that the parent company is battling with financial problems and may be closing down soon. I took your advice regardless (Thanks!!) and sent in my formal request today. However, I am not sure they will do anything.

If they do shut down, what can I do?

To show that you were employed at the parent company, you could also
take the W-2 summary of every year you worked there to the interview.

To make sure you get the letter from them, you should try to make use
of any personal contact that you still have there ...
