My green card is going to expire the last day of september. I am going to do my citizenship the first of august. Will it be ok if I dont renew my green card and just wait for my citizenship to be approved?

24. If my Permanent Resident Card expires while I am applying for
naturalization, do I still need to apply for a new card?

If you apply for naturalization less than 6 months before the expiration date on your
Permanent Resident Card, or do not apply for naturalization until your card has already
expired, you must renew your card.

It really won't prevent naturalization. It is only an issue for Immigration Officers with an "attitude problem". No matter what anyone else says, there really aren't that many.

Bit if i dont what would happen?

If you get a strict interviewer, they may insist that you apply for renewal and suspend your case until you show evidence of applying for the renewal.

Also, once your green card expires you won't be able to travel abroad, renew your driver's license (depending on your state's DMV rules), or do other things that require you to show a valid green card.

That's up to you. Only you know how you will be affected if you encounter delays or complications in the citizenship process or elsewhere in life due to an expired green card or delayed naturalization.
