cadel said:It takes 4 years and 9 months(5 years by law) for a PR who's not a result of a marriage to a US citizen,to apply for citizenship.Now as a result of a 1 year backdating of your GC as asylee,a period time remaining in your clock is 3 years and 9 months.This is a reason why your lawyer asked you to apply after 3 years and 9 months.About returning GC to NSC,we can say the uscis system is out of control,cause it's a big mistake receiving those kind of mails from NSC.If you receive a mail requesting you to return a card,just ignore it and say fuck to NSC.
