I am about to apply for my citizenship but i have renewed my NP several times in the past. Will this be an issue during the interview? Should I consult with a lawyer first?

It will cause big problem while you are in interview.

Are you the main applicant?

Which country are you from?

With your replies, I can share some information with you.

i dont think its a big problem, i remember when i applied for asylum and my application was pending i renewed my passport many times,

during the asylum hearing the government lawyer raised this issue against me,
i reponded by saying that i renewed my passport because i need to have valid
identification document with me, and in case i was denied asylum i move to another country

i was denied asylum by the immigration judge based on this issue,

i appealed my case to the BIA, i was granted asylum, the three judges panel agreed with my explanation regarding the passport issue and reversed
the decision by the previous immigration judge, they stated clearly that

renewal of national passport or possession of national passport dont undermine the credibility of fear of persecution by the asylum seeker

dont worry about passport renewal, my case is a living proof that it is not
a serious issue

Thanks.. I am about to go meet my lawyer today and provide all with an update on this question.

I had renewed my passport because RTD was taking a long time and I had to go out of the country for some business trips.. I have never been to my country of COP.

We'll see how it goes.. Thanks for your help!

They may give a fuss, but you will be fine.

This is a direct quote from my attorney:

"There is no statutory wording in the law which says that you can not renew your NP. They just can not easily link this to the "revail yourself with the possibility of establishing permanent residence with the same rights and obligations" in COP. I also note that if you have expired NP, renewing and extending is a routine issue for most of the foreign countries."

I think, the problem is not renewing NP specially after GC, but going to COP is. That 's what I think. But please keep us posted.

Seeing that your COP had no problems issuing you a travel document even though you proved to another country (US) that you are not safe there, I don't think USCIS will give you any fuss about it. I know some countries do not provide consular services to their citizens in the US once they find out that the citizen is a principal asylee.
