Citizenship for spouse

Hello,

I got my GC in May 2005. I will be eligible for USC next year. Though we started GC process together in Aug 2001, while i got mine in 2005, my wife is still waiting for her GC.

The question is, if i apply for USC in 2010 and get the USC, will it help my wife's case? Does she have to wait for her GC or, can she directly become an USC owing to my USC status?

Thanks for your help.

She will have to wait for 3 years from the later of a) your becoming a US citizen or b) Her getting a green card. After that she will be eligible to apply for citizenship as a spouse of US citizen.

Thanks for the responses.

I applied in EB2 category from NJ in Aug 2001. Cleared labor in Jan 2004. Went for fingerprints together 0n march 24, 2005. I got my GC in May 2005. She is still waiting for the GC.

She should get GC along with your application and if you have gotten yours, hers probably got stuck in back ground check or the actual GC got lost in the mail. Have you scheduled an infopass and find out where her GC is?

As bestpal mentioned, your wife should have received derivative status when your application was approved. Have you contacted USCIS lately to determine the status of her case?
