Child's Naturalization question

moline65,

Did you ask your son if he wants to gain U.S. Citizenship?

If he doesn't want it, he should go back before you naturalize so he won't have to go through any renunciation formalities with the U.S.gov plus whatever formalities that India requires.

Just a thought.... People never seem to ask their kids about it.

BigJoe5,
At his age he basically does not really care or understand what this is all about. It is with his future in mind that we as parents think that this way he has an option to decide whichever way he wants to go later is possible.
This hurry is more for him to get integrated with Indian education system. We are also thinking of going back to India after citizenship.

BigJoe5,
Do you know a Immigration Lawyer who can advise me? Any idea on what it would cost for consulting. I would like to get a proper legal opinion and know the best way to go about this whole thing.
I appreciate your suggestions and opinions.
One more question is whether I can apply for his passport at an US consulate in India based on my naturalization? I will worry about the COC later. Since US passport is good enough as proof of citizenship. How does that sound ?
Thanks
Moline65

Your US passport would be proof of your citizenship, but not sufficient proof for him to derive citizenship. Unless you've already secured the N-600 for him before he left the US, when applying for his passport at the consulate you will also have to provide proof that he was living inside the US with you when you naturalized, or for some time after your naturalization. Proving that fact can be very difficult if you and he have left the US, and consulates are more nitpicking about that proof than the US-based passport agencies.
