Chennai consulate -221(g). original degree retained

I had been to Chennai Consulate for H1B stamping in March 2005.
I was given a letter under 221(g) and
my original degree certificate was retained for verification
by consulate.
It was mentioned in the letter that I will be contacted
after the verification.
It had been 2 months since then but I have not received
any communication from the consulate.
They have mentioned specifically not to contact consulate till they
get back to me.
Still I have sent a mail to consulate but no reply.
How to get my original degree back?
How to expedite my case?
How much time they take to communicate further?
Will I get visa?

I believe 221(g) section is for "Administrative Processing". I had the same situation when I filed H4 for my wife. My passport didn't have the new company's visa and it took a while about 7 months till I had my latest visa in my passport.

However, I guess it won't take that long for you if the university is located within India and the consulate may contact the University for verification. To be on the safer side, see if you can contact your University for any information regarding verification from the US Consulate.

Good Luck

 Will it hamper my case if I contact and persue the case with consulate?
Will it help if I go there personally?

Hi aparat63
I am also in the same boat ... Chennai consulate officer has taken all my certificates and H1 papers and exp letters and said that they need to do some additional administrative processing and sai that they will notify me once the processing is done .. I have attended for the interview on 24th Mar05b.. Please let me know in case if u get any info reg ur visa

Thanks

I got my H1B stamped after 3 months.
It was smooth this time and not many questions.
But still I have to go through interview.
There were 3 persons with me who also got
221(g) initially,They also got visa.
I feel those who get 221(g) will finally get visa
if the case is genuine.
I simply followed their instructions and not called
or went to consulate.
I just sent them couple of mails enquiring the status.
Finally they sent a mail and asked me to come on any monday.
So if you have been called for monday interview, you
will likely get visa.
I saw a letter from my university regarding degree verification with them.
So they really verify, not jusy keep the papers with them.
One of the other 2 persons told that somebody actually
visited his office to verify whether he works there.
So all 221(g) friends, keep patience,You will get it.
Don't make any calls, don't go there without being called.
You can send a mail to them that also after giving them
8-10 weeks time for verification.
It pays.
The avg. waiting period is 2-3 months.

hi guys,
feeling happy about the way 221(g) reciepients are interacting.i too have the same 221(g) situation, but a bit different one.
i have taken all my documents with me to the consulate with the xtra forms like W2 forms, employees names, tax returns etc..(they asked me to bring when i went for the first time).. this was on 15th of march05.the VO has checked all my documents, verified the employing company is genuine and later collected all my documents and conducted a technical interview.(i belong to a non computer background with engineering in mechanical,of 2003 batch)i submitted my PGDCA certificate to him and my present company's job offer letter, pay stubs also.(i was working for a company when i went to interview).
here comes the technical interview.i was asked some questions and in which i could not say a few.then after taking his time a lady VO called me to issue a white paper of 221(g) which states that i have no technical expertise and lacking skills.it is also written that the petition will be recommended tobe revoked which left me ina shock.i later argued with her that i have a intent to hire letter from my employer and why was my visa revoked.
was my behaviour rude with VO.
what is the way i have to pursue now?please guys, any one help me .can i contact any lawyer or my attorney or my US employer.i will be pleased very much if any body advises me.

bye

is this a blunder i have commited which deters my visa chances if my attorney talks to consulate officials.
was my behaviour rude??
i regret for what i have done.is there any possible way to be safe.

It clears out my doubt, technically you are not able to answer counsel question.whether it is simple or not? On top of it ,you irritated the counsel. Do you thing, if you are in his position and some guy irritate you with so much power (read last paragraph) - what will you do? Simple pscychology?

You may get a job from NASA or White House or MIT, but it is Counsel who gives the visa (including green card counsel process), if he denies, no other recourse, you can not appeal at all. Counsel and Sr Counsel is the soul authority, if it comes to issuance of any US visa. (Can you ? Realize to whom you argue with)

221g Administrative Process

My brother had attended on 06/23/2005 and VO issued a 221g. But she took his Passport and Visa Issuance DD. When asked how long it takes, she said not sure on time, you may or may not appear for another interview. We will be contacting you. Does any one has got this kind of experience ? All documents were produced, they have verified and did not ask for any further documents ? What would be the possibility in this case ? How long it takes ? Any ideas/experiences would really help. Please throw some light ?

221(g) means the case is under "administrative processing". I was in the similar situation when I got married and as I didn't have the latest visa (new employer's name) in my passport, it took about 6 months for me to get my wife to join me as I had to get my passport revalidated and send it across to the Chennai consulate.

But again, the processing time-frame depends on what is required. For example, if they need to validate the bachelor's degree / master's degree, it may take lesser time for them to process the case.

Good Luck!

Mahesh
