I agree with every word...Just one remark. The United States do not benefit from asylee, as they benefit from H1 visa holders, since they are workers. Some asylees and refugees don't want to work prefering to use housings, food stamps, cash assistance etc.I've seen that on the north of state of Maine when about 1,500 immigrants(mostly refugees from Somalia) came to a small town with population less than 20,000 people, and sucked all the resources from the town. The governor was in panic and didn't know what to do, since state of Maine is not the richest in the U.S. These guys obviously abused what they've got!!! And it happens. Admit that!

Sorry it was the response to wantmygcnow :)

Well when you say asylee..most of the people think of them as Uneducated..poor people and H-1 is someone who will work and not be a liability.

But honestly int his country..to get welfare is very tough. Those who get it..go through lots of hurdles to get it and if they can get it..kudos to them...

I think you should know that any immigrant..if it is h-1 based or ASylee based is a hard worker who woudl rather work hard and make sure his/her kids have a good future...I am sure that the people you are talking about..welfare etc are in dire needs....

From the vantage point of the federal government, asylees and refugees are basically charity cases. Only humanitarian instincts account for its generosity.

Well Asylum cases before 1996 had a wait time of maybe 2 years to get adjusted..Just when the screwball CLinton modified the asylum rules..everyone had to be approved/denied within 6 months of applying..That screwed up the entire system that was in place...They broke more than they fixed..

Except that before 1995 there was virtually no chance for you getting asylum.
