The parallels with slavery of Africans are amazing. They were not citizens with voting rights until 1965. We are the new slaves I guess!karina said:The reason for them not to have lifted the cap until this day is, from my point of view, just extra controlling mechanism. I mean, think about it:
People are waiting for their green cards and in the meantime work hard, pay taxes, try to be extra cautious not to berak any law, not to raise their voices even a bit louder, even not to speed on a highway, try not to be a public charge... Perfect "citizens" without citizenship... Would they want to give up control like this voluntarily? And from their perspective, the more of us there, the better. Don't you think so?

When I waited 12 years for my green card, it was not a pleasant experience, and I have many reasons for that:Asylee13 said:Exactly, what diffierence, is it going to make if you have Green Card or not. I mean what extra can you do from what are doing now. Asylees enjoy all the benefits of permanent residents. For those who are thinking about going to home country after GC , forget it now. It would be as dangerous as it is now. You still need to use RTD for travelling. In fact here is what i think. Asylee gets GC the day their asylum is approved whereas others like H1B have to wait for years living in fear of being kicked out of status.
So, be optimistic and enjoy your status.
