Changing status to J-2 and applying for EAD

I am currently holding a H-4 visa and my husband got a new appointment and wants to change his status to J-1.

This way I would change to a J-2 visa and can apply for an EAD.

I wonder if I can file for the change of status and EAD together, in other words can I file I-539 and I-765 concurrently?

No you can not. You have to have J2 in your hand with the SEIVIS number they are going to issue to you first, then apply for J2 EAD. Do not forget that the J is a DOD visa and paper work will go there and the EAD is a USCIS benefit for J2 holders and the paper work will be sent to USCIS. Unlike H, GC and many other status which are USCIS applications from A to Z with related benefits if any and combinations of applications may be included in the same package

Thank you so much for the reply.
But hold on! J visa is processed in DOD(department of defense)?
