Changing name on green card

Hi,

Can someone tell me the procedure for changing one's last name on the green card?

I got married a few years ago before our green card process started, but continued to use my maiden name. Now I wish to officially change my last name to my husband's last name.

I have been told to do the name change at the time of GC renewal, but we just got the green card a year ago, so it's still a long time to expiry.

Thanks

you have three options

my wife is in the same situation

1 apply for a new card now

2 wait until card expires

3 wait until apply for citizenship

for options 1 and 2 you will need to show documentation just by providing your marriage license.

you will then also need to get your passport updated as well.

option 3 is probably the easiest because you don't need to show any documentation and they give you the option right on the form to change your name to whatever you want. then once you apply for the us passport you just show them the certificate.

--- you can visit local USCIS office with 2 photographs, form I-90, evidence of name change and pay the fee$185

Hi 123champ

Have you applied for the name change ? If yes, what is the exact procedure ?

When to change the SSN card with the new name, when to apply for the new passport and when to apply for name change at USCIS using I90 ?

Could you please share your findings ?
