Change of status from L1 to H1

Hi,

Please could someone help me. I am currently in the US on L1. I also have an approved H1 of date 10/01/2000. I wish to now start working for that employer. The H1 is valid till 12/02/2003. Could someone tell me if I can directly start working for the H1 employer or do I need to go out of the country for stamping?

If you have a new I94 in your H1 approval...

you need not go out of the country to get the stamp. You will have to do it sometime though in order to get back in after a trip outside US. If you decide to do it in canada or mexico it is safer to get the stamp before your L1 expiry.
