Hi everybody! I have a question regarding the change of status while in the U.S. What I'd like to know is if it's possible to change the status from B-2(visitor/tourist) to F-1, WITHOUT leaving the country? I've been in the U.S. twice so far. No overstay!!! Some additional information about me: I'm 32, citizen of Serbia & Montenegro (former Yugoslavia), employed. Thank you all and feel free to contact me on my email address or through this forum.

After 9/11, b1 to F1 change status is gone. You will get F1 while you are in US, but to get the F1 status/visa stamp you must go out of USA and come back with F1 visa.

Dear friend, so you mean to say that we have to go out of USA and stamp the student visa. Can we go to canada and get it stamped.

YES. Visa stamping must be out side USA.

To get your visa stamped based on I 20, you have to go out of USA (Home country or Mexico/Canada) and re-enter.

If Canada or Mexico reject your visa stamping you have to go to your home country to get visa stamped.

I 20 is not a visa paper, any approved schools will issue it. Even preparing for TOEFL/GRE tests or USMLE test KAPLAN is authorized to issue I 20
