Change from F1 to H1 (pleas help...)

I have a job offer to start working in Oct 2005 (they missed the boat for Oct 2004). I am still on a valid F-1 status and my future employer would like to file expeditiously on Apr 1 2005.

If my H-1 gets approved during May 2005, can I retain my F-1 status and stay in the US studying until Sep 30? Or by getting H-1 approval I will loose the F status?

Missing dates. When will your study program end? Are you applying for OPT for 12 months which will allow you to work with H1 sponser employer until you get your H1B.
