Case number question

Great job everyone and I get good information from this forum. I have not yet filed for my 140 and 485 but have a question with case number. Will the case number be the same for I140 and I485 if filed either concurrently or seperately? Just curious.

Thank you,
SBR.

I-140 will have different case # and I-485 will have different
EAD and AP applications will also have different case# every petition has different case #
After you file I-485 you will get A# on I-485 filing receipt and that A# will remain same for you it is like SSN# and will not be changes and A# will have all your immigration data. Petitions linked with A# they can find any petitions filed, pending for you

Ginnu,

What happens if an applicant has 2 petitions filed (filed around the same time, say one through his employer and the other one through his spouse), does he get 2 A#s??

Any thoughts??

--- I hope you are asking about 2 I-485 filing one filed as primary and other as derivative I-485 if that is true then the earlier filed I-485 filing receipt will have the A# on it and same A# should be written on second I-485 form before you submit. If one has 2 A# it may confuse them at the time of approval and case resolution unit of USCIS will fix the problem

Hi,
Where do we find this A# number. Is it on any of the documents we have or is it known only to the INS folks.

thanks,

The A# can be seen on the Receipts you receive from BCIS for EAD, AP and 485 applications. It will be in the 'Beneficiary' column above the beneficiary's name.

The A# is generally consists of 8 digits and starts with letter 'A'

Axx xxx xxx

If I-140 is also filed alongwith 485, you should see the A# in the beneficiary column.

This reply is based on my personal experience (looking into the receipts that I have received from BCIS on my concurrent filing)

Cheers,

Ginnu...thanks

Ginnu,

Thanks for your reply on 2 A #s. But there is a remote possibility that one can end up with 2 A #s. This situation may arise if one applies for his/her 485 as a primary applicant and also files another 485 as a derivative applicant through his/her spouse. This can only happen if both the 485s are filed around the same time without waiting for the receipts of the first one before applying the second one.

Seems stupid...but this is definitely a corner case.

Cheers,
anonymous.

--- AND also some time many lawyers who file newI-485 never asks for A# of pending I-485 and presumes that he/she has no other I-485 pending and writes” none” that way one can have 2 A# and it will be discovered at final I-485 approval time or at the time of local USCIS interview time and some time the applicant forgets to mention to lawyer that he/she has pending I-485 if that is the case one should disclose it to new lawyer and should provide the copy of pending I-485 receipt so that he can write the A# on new I-485 form
