I know a case where the wife's photo was on the husbands card. They went back to the office and pointed out their mistake. Take photographs again with you. There may be a charge for the correction, but insist that it was their fault not yours. You can get away with it if you have a sympathetic person at the counter.

You need to go to the INS office in person and file I-90,write a letter of explaination also. The fees will be waived, but you need to wait another year also for the new ( Hopefully correct) cards.
A friend of mine received her card earlier this year (Jan) with an invalid place of birth. She is still waiting to receive the corrected card. Yes - sometimes it's like waiting for it all over again.
