Canadian ties

Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen and I have been living in Europe for the past two years (I have not filed tax in Canada as a resident and I did not have a home in Canada during this time). Now I am looking for a job in California without staying in Canada for a significant amount of time.

Given the type of jobs I am looking for and my credentials, I am pretty sure that I will be able to meet the requirements of TN. But will the lack of residential ties with Canada in the past two years will be a problem for me? (I read in this forum that there is not a question about this in the TN checklist used by USCIS) If this could be a problem is there a way to make up for this?

Thanks,

I have always included a recent canadian bank statement showing enough funds to support myself for a few months.
No idea if that had any effect on my approvals.
But you may want to open a canadian bank account for that purpose if you don't already have one.

Thank you very much for the information. I can try to do it when I apply but obviously I cannot create data for the past. Did they ask for this bank statement? Or any other document to prove Canadian ties by default?

There is no requirement to show ties to Canada or any other country for TN, since you are allowed to live in US on TN, unlike tourist or student. There is no requirement to show financial responsibility for TN. There is simply an expectation that you will leave US when no longer in status

Thanks, that makes sense.
