hello all. i am a canadian citizen who recently quit my job to travel stateside for a few months during cheap travel time. when i crossed customs, they hassled me as they thought i was staying (understandable) and they gave me until feb 1st to return to canada. my question is do i have to wait a certain time period until i can re-enter? will i get denied if i come back in a few days? i'm in limbo right now as i really want to travel! thanks so much.

Back to back admission on a "visa waiver" which is limited to 90 days will lead to trouble. As a Canadian if you want to stay longer, apply for an actual visa at the Consulate or explore the TN visa if you want to stay and work for an extended period and meet the "professional occupation" qualifications under NAFTA regulations 8 CFR 214.6. TN's are issued for 3 years or shorter if the job is limited to less. TN's are endlessly renewable as long as suitable employment is offered.

Actually Canadians do not fall under the "visa waiver" program at all. Never did. Canadians have always had special provisions as far as US visitation is concerned.

You are playing with fire here. You have a few factors working against you. You are unemployed. You recently got a restricted US entry, which in itself is a rare event for a Canadian citizen. We have no idea what the last admitting officer entered into the system as far as you are concerned. You might have a real smooth entry into the US next time. You may also get turned away. My advice to you would be to stay away from the US for at least 3 months before seeking re-entry. Or as an alternative, go somewhere else to travel. Go to Cuba. We Canadians can travel there without issues :)
