I am a Canadian Women who has been living with an American citizen for 5 years. We want to get married. I want to retain my Canadian benefits ie: health insurance and property in Canada. I would go back to Canada whenever needed. What do I have to do? Would we have to combine our incomes for income tax purposes and where would we file. Me in Canada (where my income originates) or in the US? As a Canadian could I stay with my husband in the States more than 183 days per year?

Please advise, thanks

You can keep your Canadian property, but you will not retain Canadian health benefits unless you actually reside in Canada.

You could live in the US, and you would likely file taxes there. Your Canadian tax situation would depend on your job and residence. What is the source of your income?
