Canada with RTD

Does anyone have any experience going to Canada on an RTD with no visa at all?

I know people with US passport who go to Canada and people with RTD who go to Canada. The inspector at the Canadian airport simply look at the documents and let you go (no stamping). In fact, there is a special line if you come from the US at Vancouver airport.

With US passport - it is a given. Those people will just look at the passport and wave you in with no stamping. But, strangely enough, even with RTD - these people won't stamp your RTD like in other countries (Australia airports, or European airports).

So, the question is : Will you be refused entry if you go to Canada with an American RTD? I only ask because also someone on this forum before went to Mexico with RTD and no visa and was granted entry.

Thanks

A friend of mine went - has brother in Canada. She always gets the visa. Mauricio22 lucked out wiht Mexico (it was great to read though!), keep that in mind. I think in general we are better off sticking to the rules if we can at all...just my 2 cents.

Haircut! Canada and Mexico are whole different ball game. Mexicans might let you in but Canadian's definitely NOT. They require visitor visa on RTD. So do not make that mistak to show up on border or airport for that matter with your RTD without a valid Visa. They will simply turn you back.

However if you have Single entry visitor visa (6months ), then Canadian's allow you to enter as many times as you wish to during that validity of that Visa.( even if its single entry). So you can back & forth multiple time on a single entry visa provided you are making entry from USA.

Does this multiple entries on a single entry visa apply only to those holding US issued documents or to all entering Canada from the US? Like for example, my mother in law is visiting us now and has her foreign passport which is also stamped with a Canadian single entry visa (her daughter lives there). Will she be able to enter Canada multiple times from the US?

Lazerthegreat and all,
Thanks for all your inputs. So to confirm: a single entry visa allows you multiple entries to Canada from the US. Is this the rule or is it the common practice? Did you experience this while traveling to Canada?

I only noticed that the people at the Canadian airport will not stamp you on your visa if you come from the US. In other countries, if you have a single entry visa, they put a "Not valid for further travel" stamp.

Gracias

I have done it myself on RTD. Entered Canada twice with a single entry visitor visa within the validity. They cross the visa sticker the first time and put stamp on empty page of RTD. They put another stamp on blank page when I entered 2nd time. You can enter multiple times within the validity of visa provided you are making entry from USA.

Yes,I went to Mexico without a visa

and they let me IN. But I strongly agree with EspressoJoy, we should follow the rules to make sure we get through these hassles. I went because could't wait, also I live in LA an the flight isn't that expensive if they turned me down.
I actually almost went to the consulate yesterday to inquire about my visa application ( never heard from them in 2 months) but they had that crazy hostage situation with the guy shot,,...I am telling you.....
And now I need to go again to Mexico. God help me!

That is Correct

1. You do need a vistor visa if traveling to Canada with an RTD. If you prove ties to the USA, it should be easy to get one.

2. As Lazer says, you may enter multiple times using a single entry visa within the 6-month validity period.

Go to this page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/offices/missions.html and locate the nearest Canadian Visa Office. You should be able to download the application form as well as get a number to call. They are very helpful in explaining the US RTD process. Don't worry, they are familiar with the Asylee/Refugee RTD. :-)
