Canada visit with valid H1 & return - Please advice

hi guys,
If anyone knows or have been through this process please let me know. I am on H1 and planning to visit Canada for my PR card. But I am not planning to stamp H1B visa since I am not getting interview soon enough. Can I came back from Canada if I do not apply for H1B? I heard from someone that you can visit for 30 days and can come back with your I-94 as long as you do not apply for H1B visa.
I will appreciate your response.
