Magician & Anish_GC,
I have received my approval letter today which i will have to go for a stamp. I had scheduled for tomorrow morning and will keep you guys posted. My wife's case still pending (I guess). Even our LUD have changed at the same day. Somehow, I am highly suspected (and hope) that my wife will end up having her card mailed directly to her without stamping. Anyway, I will let you guys know if this is the case.

Anish & Roj,
I didn't got regular approval mail by post for PP stamping. But I got I-797C form instead which states "My card will be mailed to me in 3 weeks...etc...etc."....I was not called for PP stamping.

Anish, pl. do let me know what approval letter you get.

Roj, all the best for your remaining process

Guys,
I went for a PPS this morning 8:00Am at Buffalo, NY. It all went well. The officer took my approval notice and called me in for a right index figer print with my signature which she told me it will be on the card. Then she gave me a stamp that is good for 1 year (hopefully I will get my actual card before then). I headed down two blocks to the Social Security Office and have my work limitation removed from my card and the officer told me I will get my new card within 2 weeks.
Thanks again for all the best wishes and congrats also to everyone that making this forum very informative and useful. Hope everyone will get appovals soon and smooth processes.

Magician, I am pretty sure you will actually get a card mailed to you soon.
Goood luck!

Anish, Did you check with your lawyer's office? My approval letter said they also mailed to my lawyer office.

Last month I had shifted to New York from New Jersey, I had sent the change of address to KY & also called NSC on 10/22/04 and updated my address but my LUD or online message never changed.

Today I had received a letter from USCIS about my case status inquiry to my present address in NY but sent the 485 approvals to my old address in NJ.

The exact message on the letter:

The status of your claim is:
This case has been approved. An approval notice was sent out to a NJ address on 11/03/04. Please utilize INFOPASS on our website to make an appointment to be processed for your permanent resident card as indicated on your approval letter.

I had called NSC customer service and informed them about my address changes and the text of the status inquiry, she told me that I cannot change my address since my case was approved and if I need to call them after Dec 3rd(30 days after approval date). She told me to send a letter to Vermont Service center and they will look at this information or I have to file I-824 for duplicate approval notices.

I am worried that the approval notice will go to my old address & return back to USCIS since the Postal services do not forward INS documents.

Please let me know if you have any information on how to get my approval notices to my present address.

Roj, Magician,

We too have got similar approval notice for I-485 in the mail yesterday (it was approved on Nov 2). They do not ask us to go for stamping, instead the notice says "Welcome to the US" and that "your card will be mailed to you within 21 days"

I think they are trying to phase out PP stamping and hasten the process of sending out physical cards - I have seen some updates on murthy.com about this. So, they have sent us such notices. I think this is fine, we dont have to bother about stamping, just wait for a month or so, and the GC card will arrive in the mail one fine day.

gc_despo,

Yahoooooooooooooooooooooooooo...... Welcome to the Party Pal :)..... I was just waiting for one more person who is approved in Nov 2004 to post approval message like me.

With your approval message matching mine I am now about 99% sure that we might get the cards directly and its not an ERROR :)...Yes, we will wait for 3 weeks as indicated and see what happens...Tha's a good news !!!!!!!!
My wife's case also approved yesterday so I guess she should also get the same letter. keep posting............

Thanks

Hi Magician,

We got an e-mail from our lawyer's office yesterday saying that CIS seems to have sent us the welcome notice instead of approval notice by mistake. Apparently welcome notice is only sent to children under 14. So lawyer instucted us to make Infopass appt for stamping and go with the courtsey welcome notice and get PP stamped. At least they think that this "your card will be mailed to you in 21 days" will not happen without passport stamping.

I will speak with lawyer for clarification and then update here as well. Looks like we are in for one (hopefully) last urcertainty before its all over.

gc_despo,

Unfortunately my lawyer is not "smart" enough to give me the details. He is as surprised as me to see the confusion. So I have to depend on this forum.

Thanks

Stamping without approval letter

Final stamping story:
Today I had reached Albany Service center at 8:15am showed them my case inquiry letter. The security guard gave me a token and told me to sit and an information immigration officer will call you. Before I could get to find a seat my token was called. Showed them the case inquiry letter. The case inquiry letter was addressed to my current address. I told her that I had received the case inquiry letter to my present address & the approval was sent to my old address. Immigration officer showed the letter to next clerk & laughed at the message and asked me for my passport / I-94/EAD/AP/ 2 photographs and proof of residence( I was tensed before she asked me my passport since I was expecting a run around for my approval notice). She filled a form and took the index finger print & signature. After my stamping she took my wife’s documents and stamped her passport. (My wife’s case was approved but did not have approval notice or case inquiry letter except for passport / I-94/EAD/AP and 2 photos). She told us that we can travel anywhere and the plastic card will take 3-6 months to reach us. By 8:28am our stamping was done and were out of the small building.

Anyway, It’s a happy ending without an approval letter.

Will update tonight.

Magician and gc_despo,
Just to be safe why don't you guys take infopass appt as suggested by your lawyer and get the stamping!. If you get the card as they promise in 3 weeks that will be great! You would have just lost a few hours in the effort spent in stamping! Otherwise you have the stamp anyway :)

As for me I am still waiting!

Waiting,
Yeah, infact I just took info pass appt. for 3rd week of nov. If I don't get the card by then I am going INS office to end the suspense.

All the best to you for your GC too

I too have taken Infopass appt for Nov 24 for stamping at San Jose. As waiting mentioned, it is safer to get stamping done. Also, we will get better clarification at CIS local office, if indeed they are sending cards within 3 weeks.
